G’day, Shug here. This is a residential job in Sunshine, out in Melbourne’s west. The brief was simple: stop the car being driven out of the garage by thieves, and keep easy access for everyday use.
The job
The garage opens straight onto a paved driveway, so the car was easy to get at from the street. Vehicle theft is still happening across Melbourne’s western suburbs, and a garage like this is an easy target.
The owner wanted a solid barrier that would stop the car leaving, but could still come out quickly whenever they needed the garage.

What we installed
I fitted heavy-duty steel removable bollards across the garage entrance, set into reinforced concrete footings at the right depth so they’ll take a hit. They’re key-lockable, and each one comes with its in-ground sleeve and key.
When the bollards are locked in, the car isn’t going anywhere. To drive out, the owner unlocks a bollard, lifts it out of its sleeve and drops it back in afterwards. It takes seconds.
Why removable bollards
For a home garage or driveway, they’re hard to beat:
- A solid steel barrier when they’re in. A car can’t be driven out past them.
- Full, clear access when they’re out.
- No motors, remotes or wiring to go wrong, and next to no maintenance.
- Nothing permanent across your driveway.
The same setup works just as well for small warehouses, commercial units and factory doors.
