Shug Removable Bollards

Bollards Provide Protection from Unwanted Vehicle Intrusion

Removable bollards offer an ideal solution to safeguard pedestrian areas from unauthorised and potentially dangerous vehicular traffic, while still allowing pedestrians to move freely through the area. These security bollards also enable authorised users to remove the steel posts when emergency or maintenance vehicles need access.

In the instance depicted above, an errant vehicle struck a 115mm OD removable bollard, causing significant damage to the vehicle, but keeping it entirely out of the protected zone. The model featured in the photo is a TrafficGuard removable bollard. Security posts come in a variety of sizes and strengths. Shug’s removable bollards are very similar and common for low-speed applications as they combine some stopping power with a reasonable post weight, making it easier for users to remove and replace the steel posts.

Shug removable bollards are unrated but effective in ‘best practice’ situations where some security is desired, stopping a vehicle in its tracks. Untested bollards can be very effective in deterring vehicles and often, as in the case above, will stop a vehicle.

Why bollards matter for people on foot

In one video I shared, a young girl walks along a path in a convenience store car park. Moments later an out-of-control car hits the bollards she'd just walked in front of. The bollards stopped it, and she wasn't hurt. It's a good reminder to stick to paths and walkways in car parks: that's where the bollards are protecting you.

I've also seen footage of pedestrians being run down by a drunk driver, where a few bollards would have stopped the car. For bollards that protect people, see the Rhino protection bollard, permanent bollards and bollards for schools and childcare centres.
