Some people may think, “No one will ram raid me, because there is nothing of real value in my business,” but that is completely incorrect. This type of attitude is what will place you in the radar of thieves, because you will not be thinking a step ahead of them and their devious tricks.
What most people don’t know is that an establishment with even a little bit of stock can be attractive to attackers! Ram raiders do not care. They are determined to steal anything; whatever they gain is still more than what they started with-nothing. Therefore, it is extremely important for you to always be on the defence and be aware of the many ways in which your company could be in a vulnerable position.
For example, would you ever think that a butcher would be a target for a ram raid? In January 2014, a butcher named Mr. Doblinger was ram raided in the suburb of Belconnen. The offenders only managed to get away with two bottles of Jack Daniels, but they still stole nonetheless. Mr. Doblinger made a great point by admitting that he believed his shop was hit ‘because it was the only one without a bollard out front’. This wise butcher has now learned his lesson after staring at nasty bills of repairs and is considering his options for protection to prevent this from happening again in the future.
Bollards are the only efficient and effective way to stop a ram raider. Alarms and security cameras won’t stop a ram raid attack; they will only alert you or give you a nice video of some mean people taking what is rightfully yours. Usually, you cannot even identify the perpetrators in the footage, because they are driving stolen vehicles and have their faces covered with balaclavas or hoodies. Moreover, they manage to complete their deed quickly, so that they are in and out of your premises within seconds or minutes. By the time the police or security staff have arrived at the scene, the raiders are long gone. This leaves just you with less stock in your store or business and a slightly low sense of dignity and security.

Security screens won't stop a car
In this surveillance video, thieves drive a BMW straight through a shop's security screen. Getting out took them several attempts, but they still got away and left thousands of dollars of damage. Most screens and shutters are made from light materials, so a car driven at speed goes right through them.
Langwarrin: a stolen four-wheel drive through the front doors
Two men stole a Nissan Patrol from a used car yard in Seaford at about 4.30 am, rammed it through the car yard's metal gate, then drove it through the front doors of the Langwarrin shopping centre to get at a free-standing ATM. They didn't get the money, but the damage to the car yard and the shopping centre ran into the tens of thousands. Neither site had bollards in the right places.
