This news report is really unbelievable. Watch the below video to see how a couple becomes victims of a poor installation job at a shopping mall.
The couple who owns the lotto agency at the Phoenix Park Shopping Centre in Perth have been ram raided. The saddest part is that this could have been avoided if workers had paid more attention to what they were doing. If you take a look at the photo below, you can see that the bollards are made from either 1.6mm – 2mm stainless steel and aren’t even filled with concrete! It is evident that anyone could easily push them over with a shopping cart. In fact, I’m surprised that it hasn’t happened yet.
Skimping on bollards in a shopping centre is clearly not a good way to cut corners. Although the people responsible for buying them may have saved money, the McKenzie family will be paying for their mistake. They have lost 3 months of income and are expecting another $500,000 in loss of revenue over the Christmas holiday. The heartache has trickled down to employees whom have, unfortunately, been let go to cover for the extreme expenses that these fallen bollards have cost the McKenzies.
It’s a shame that the reporter for this story could not even get the details straight. For example, the reporter mentions that an SUV smashed through steel bollards and a glass door. However, it is clear that these bollards are not made of steel-otherwise, this would not have happened. A properly installed steel bollard would have stopped this SUV in its tracks, causing serious injury to the occupants of the vehicle and the SUV itself. Instead what occurred is what you see in the picture above: the bollards posed no resistance, provided no protection to the lotto store, and allowed for the vehicle to cause all of the damage that resulted from the crash.

I would rather spend 10 minutes on the phone with you (free of charge) to make sure you get the right bollard than to have you spend more money down the road and get ripped off by the same company that hired the fools who ‘properly installed’ these weak and cheap bollards.
