My brother is not the greatest driver. Some might say hopeless. Below is an image he took after running over a parking barrier.
These barriers are used by car parks all over Australia. They help to:
- Define the parking space
- Protect cars from hitting gutters or other items
- Stop cars from making contact with other cars
- Help separate people and vehicles
I suspect that local councils are now making it compulsory for these type of parking barriers to be mandatory in all new car parks.
This is good news because these type of protectors make car parks safer: they help reduce damage and even injury to customers.
But…
I also suspect that some builders/developers are using the cheapest and nastiest parking barriers possible. This is not good news.
My brother probably drove his vehicle into the car spot without a worry in the world. He would have been ignorant to the fact there was a barrier in place. And he probably didn’t notice that he drove over the damn thing. This is not what is supposed to happen.
When a vehicle hits a parking barrier the driver should get an immediate jolt and the vehicle should be stopped. The vehicle should not be able to simply drive over the barrier and continue on. What’s the point of this? The stupid thing hasn’t done its job.
If protecting customers and their vehicles isn’t enough for developers, then maybe the cost of replacing broken parking barriers will be. Here’s another image of the damage done to this cheap barrier after just ONE vehicle has hit it.
Proper barriers need to be made from concrete or steel, not plastic. If you’re in the market for parking protectors that are made to last then please contact me.
